What you need to know
Marketing consultants can charge more when they price around revenue mechanics instead of activity. If your recommendations improve CAC, raise ROAS, increase qualified pipeline, or lift conversion rate, your work belongs in the $125-$250 range far more often than the $60-$80 range. Clients care less about how many dashboards you touched than whether the funnel got healthier.
Do not hide expensive tools inside a vague hourly rate. SEMrush, Ahrefs, call tracking, reporting platforms, ad accounts, and CRM cleanup time all add real cost, and enterprise clients often expect those tools to be part of the workflow. Spell out what is included, what is a pass-through expense, and when implementation work is separate from strategy so profitable projects stay profitable.
A strong product ladder usually beats a single catch-all rate. Many consultants win with an audit or roadmap first, then convert the best clients into a monthly retainer for execution oversight, testing, and reporting. That sequence filters out low-intent buyers and prevents the classic mistake of giving away $2,000 worth of strategy during a sales call.
