4. A Summary of your project .
This project will involve a one day workshop to educate and sensitize the public especially the people along the coastal lowland of Cameroon on Marine environmental protection in the Douala, Tiko, and limbe harboring the river wouri,seaport, and the Atlantic ocean endowed with water resources in the south west region in the country.
This workshop will be organized on the September 2010 in the limbe city council hall. The various stakeholders and representatives of civil society organizations relating to water management, fishing ,mayors, companies,fishmongers,officials of the ministry of environment and protection of nature and the ministry of livestock, fisheries and animal husbandry and law enforcement officers.
These official will brainstorm on the various ways to sensitize and educate the public on enhancing marine environmental protection along the coastal zone by fishing companies dumping waste into the sea and rivers and the local population on the coastal region using the sea for a dumping site and defecation .This destroy the water resources especially the coastlines, shorelines and fish.
At the end of the workshop the recommendation arrived at will be disseminated to the public through the different media.
4.Project goals:
A. Specific goals of the project
The overall goal of this project is create an awareness on the public and stakeholders on the marine environmental protection.
The specific goals of the project will be to:
• Educate and sensitize the coastal people on marine environmental protection,
• Strengthen national marine pollution prevention and management capacities,
• Disseminate the recommendations of the workshop to the general public on radio, Cameroon radio television (CRTV), media houses, press releases, and other TV station.
B. Methods for accomplishing these goals
The methods of accomplishing the goals through presentation, brainstorming, group discussions and adoption of resolution by the various stakeholders.
5. Statement of specific environmental benefit
This project will have the following environmental benefits:
• Promote sustainable and socio-economic development of global shipping,
• Promote cleaner waters and coasts,
• Increased tourism,
• Greater access to protein through sustainable fishing practices
• Promotion of marine pollution management,
• Integrated coastal zone management
6. Significance of the project
This project will create a platform for the promotion of marine pollution management, specifically the promotion of alternatives to dumping of waste including the alternatives of disposal mechanisms, recycling and the use of cleaner technologies.
